March 2009 - Make it Work workshop On March 11th 2009, CWN ran the Make it Work workshop in partnership with the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, for experienced women in business who have recently lost their jobs due to the financial crisis and restructuring.
The full-day program was extremely well received by the 25 senior women from a range of business sectors who enrolled. Participants heard from Doug Hyatt, a terrific teacher and economist on faculty at Rotman on the state of the economy and the impact of demographic trends on the labour market; financial planner Susannah Nicklin of AllianceBernstein (the workshop’s generous sponsors) on what to be thinking about in terms of one’s personal finances during the downturn; Kate Grussing of Sapphire Partners on career adaptation and preparing yourself for a new job search; and executive coach Michele Duke on emotional intelligence and understanding who you are not just what you do.
Best of all this roomful of talented and experienced women had the opportunity to meet each other, network and develop a shared understanding that there is a strategic and productive way to plan their next career move. It was a pleasure to work together with CWN members Susannah, Kate and Michele and the workshop exemplifies how CWN creates opportunities for members to showcase their professional skills and expertise while providing tangible benefits to professional women.
