CWN announce Wellbeing of Women as Charity Partner

The CWN Board is delighted to announce that following a rigorous selection process, Wellbeing of Women has been identified as our Charity Partner for 2020-2021.

Wellbeing of Women is the UK’s foremost charity that invests in pioneering, peer-reviewed medical research across the whole breadth of women’s reproductive health and childbirth. In 55 years, Wellbeing of Women has invested over £55 million to find cures, improve diagnosis and develop new and better treatments across three areas; pregnancy, childbirth and fertility, gynaecological cancers and general issues affecting women’s health and wellbeing.

Many of the routine tests and treatments that form everyday clinical practice can be traced back to their work. The findings of their research can be seen in the use of ultrasound in pregnancy, the importance of taking folic acid for the health of the unborn baby and linking HPV to cervical cancer resulting in the HPV vaccine now available for girls nationwide.

With only 2.48% of publicly funded research devoted to reproductive health and childbirth, Wellbeing of Women is one of the few sources of vital funding to support progress in the health of women and their families.

“CWN, along with its members, looks forward to working in partnership with Wellbeing of Women, and to contributing in a meaningful way towards their vital research.

“We were inspired by the advances in tests and treatments which can be traced back to their work. We hope that by working in partnership with Wellbeing of Women, our membership, representing a diverse range of professions, sectors and backgrounds will be able to play a part in improving women’s health which is largely overlooked and underfunded.

“CWN is committed to enhancing the development and resilience of women both professionally and personally. This links closely to the aims of Wellbeing of Women, as the outcomes of their research improves women’s health both at home and in the workplace.” said Sally Todd, President, CWN.

Janet Lindsay, Chief Executive at Wellbeing of Women, said, “We are thrilled that Wellbeing of Women has been chosen as City Women Network's 2020/2021 Charity Partner. We will be working together with CWN to increase investment into women's health research and raise awareness of women’s health issues which are so often overlooked and underfunded.

Investing in medical research is the only way we will find the breakthroughs that will save lives and improve treatment and care for women. Wellbeing of Women is funding a number of projects that will directly impact women's health in the workplace, so we believe this partnership could not have come at a more opportune moment.”
