Diversity and Inclusion Policy

CWN Diversity and Inclusion Policy Statement

Purpose

CWN is committed to developing, maintaining and supporting a culture of equality, diversity and inclusion within its community and in the planning and execution of CWN initiatives and the discharge of CWN operations.

As embodied by CWN, the concept of diversity encompasses acceptance, fairness and respect and the scope to be different. CWN seeks to create an inclusive environment to empower, equip and enable everyone – individuals of all ages and levels, from diverse backgrounds and business sectors - to contribute and reach their full potential.

The concept of inclusion, as embodied by CWN, recognises individual differences and values these differences. By engaging the uniqueness and the talents, beliefs, backgrounds, capabilities and ways of working of all individuals, joined in a common endeavour, CWN aims to foster a culture of belonging, in which people feel valued and respected.

CWN believes there is strength and value in diversity of thought and experience and that diversity of perspectives is critical to innovation and creativity. At CWN we listen to each other, engage in dialogue, and respectfully debate issues - we believe we succeed through collaboration. Pooling our ideas and collective knowledge is fundamental to our ability to innovate and ultimately to our success.

CWN members and its wider community aim to foster a culture of tolerance, dignity, acceptance and respect and be part of a functional and learning environment that is free from barriers, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage or civil partnership.[1]  We view the diversity of our membership as a force for good that we value and nurture.

Goal

Our goal is to ensure that these aforementioned commitments, reinforced by our values, are embedded in our working practices with all our members, stakeholders and partners.

Scope

This policy applies to CWN officers of the Board in the carrying out of their roles and responsibilities, CWN committee members and the wider CWN membership community.

General principles

CWN will seek to:

Embed equality, diversity and inclusion in all its activities and live the CWN values through everything that we do.

Engage with all stakeholders fairly - including individual and corporate members, local communities, charitable initiatives, interest groups, professional bodies and industry.

Proactively and respectfully minimise the potential for discrimination or harassment in any of our activities; seek out opportunities to promote inclusive development and seek out the views of all relevant stakeholders.

Take necessary steps so that people with protected characteristics do not experience any disproportionate disadvantage as a result of the planning or execution of any CWN event or initiative.

We will listen and act on any issues, allegations or concerns that are brought to our attention.  We will investigate and address the situation in a fair and respectful way.
