International Women's Day Event - No more menemies: how we include men in the pursuit of gender equality

06 Mar 2024
8:00am - 10:00am GMT

We are thrilled to extend a special invitation to an exclusive breakfast event in celebration of International Women's Day at the beautiful new event space at Aspire for Equality in Farringdon.

Join us for what promises to be both a thought provoking and enlightening morning as we welcome Lori Meakin, the esteemed author of 'No More Menemies: Getting Beyond the Fear and Frustration of the Gender Wars' ," as our distinguished guest speaker.

Inspired by this year's theme of 'Inclusion' for International Women's Day,  the event will focus on the pursuit of gender equality and the crucial conversation about why, despite a level of progress, we sometimes find ourselves moving backward. Lori Meakin's knowledge will provide valuable insights into fostering inclusivity and collaboration between men and women on the journey towards achieving true gender equality. Her book is a beacon of guidance in navigating the complexities of gender dynamics, and we are excited to delve into meaningful discussions inspired by her work.

Each attendee will receive a free signed copy of Lori's book and the delicious breakfast will be provided by female-led businesses.  We encourage you to RSVP at your earliest convenience to secure your place at this fabulous event.  We also welcome you to bring a male ally as your guest if you wish.

Lori now uses the deep expertise in changing attitudes and behaviour that she developed over decades in advertising, branding and the media to address the issue: how can we get past the growing gender wars and ‘menemies’ mindset, and build a world that works better for all of us.

About 'No More Menemies: Getting Beyond the Fear and Frustration of the Gender Wars'

Despite mountains of evidence that gender equality benefits men too, there’s now a growing backlash, as 53% of men in Britain say gender equality has gone too far and it’s men that are being discriminated against. Importantly, that feeling is strongest amongst younger men.

While misogyny, homophobia and transphobia are fuelling each other, and cancel-culture creates a climate of fear even for the men who want to help, how can we make the progress that we know will benefit all of us?

This book answers that question. Lori examines eight big issues of gender inequality, including sex, parenting, and work; how boys are socialised to belittle things that are ‘girly’ and to police each other's masculinity; and even how much of the problem remains invisible. But instead of telling men how they should change, she’s spent two years talking to all kinds of men, from undergrads to grandads, to understand what it feels like to be a man right now; and to try and find reasons why men might want to lean in to gender equality.  The results are fascinating, sometimes funny, and full of hope and positivity.

Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and be inspired.  Each attendee will receive a free signed copy of Lori's book, "No more Mememies".  We encourage you to RSVP at your earliest convenience to secure your place at this fabulous event.  We also welcome you to bring a male guest should you wish.
